This study confirms what most here already know: https://hurlburt.faculty.unlv.edu/heavey-hurlburt-2008.pdf. They found that 75% of the study participants did not exercise inner speech. In other words, most of these people cannot begin the process of introspection, fundamentally. They simply absorb the information in their environment, they are literally "meat robots". The following verses from the Qur'an echo these observations by comparing these "meat robots" to cattle:
And We have created for Gehenna many among the domini and the servi: they have hearts wherewith they understand not; and they have eyes wherewith they see not; and they have ears wherewith they hear not. Those are like cattle; nay, — they are further astray — it is they who are the heedless. (7:179)
If thou thinkest that most of them hear or reason — they are only as the cattle; nay, they are further astray in the path. (25:44)
God makes those who heed warning and do righteous deeds enter gardens beneath which rivers flow. But those who ignore warning enjoy themselves, and eat as the cattle eat; and the Fire is a dwelling for them. (47:12)
The Qur'an's usage of cattle is a highly apposite comparison for these people, because they'll incorporate poisonous agendas just as the cattle will continue eating poisonous animal feed if provided so.
