If someone is offended by a remark of a personal nature such as ‘you are a fat slut’ then if it makes them feel better, they can slap the offender in the mouth and be done with it. Nobody else should get involved, least of all ‘the government’ or its enforcers. But as you point out, in reality this has nothing to do with protecting the hurty feelings of fat sluts, but rather is about gaslighting the whole of humanity: melting down the mind

Absolutely. Or as in the days of sanity when, if you kicked a football through a neighbour's window he would just come out and slap you round the head and that was the end of it.

Now, it's all social workers and behaviour-changing drugs (which they use, in my view, to weed out the boys with the potential to become leaders).
