Thank you for the further advice; I have already largely given up on books and apps for Quran learning and begun doing what you suggest - reading a bit daily, but I take the point about not focusing especially on the later surahs. For anyone else just beginning, two points I'd make - one, the vocabulary is much smaller than with a modern language; two, you never have to translate passages from English into Arabic. When being taught a modern language, you're given exercises where you have to translate your own language into the target language, which is harder than the other way round, which would be ridiculous with the Quran. These two things make beginning Quranic Arabic less daunting.
