Based on my comprehension of "Propaganda" influenced by Ellul's Technique, the concept of a distinct "They" loses its relevance, as the true orchestrator of propaganda is the very technique itself. Technique stands as the driving force behind the creation and dissemination of propaganda, ensnaring all individuals in its web to ensure its perpetuation and growth. It seems that your use of the terms "they" and "Technique" is inconsistent with Ellul's perspective on the nature and functionality of Technique. Thus, in alignment with Ellul's ideas, the focus should shift away from attributing propaganda to a specific group and instead recognize Technique as the underlying manipulative force that ensnares and influences all.

I respect Ellul's perspective on propaganda and its link to Technique; however, I hold a different viewpoint. In my opinion, there does indeed exist a discernible "They" – specific individuals or groups who wield Technique to exert influence and control over the masses. While Technique may serve as a powerful tool, attributing agency and responsibility to those who manipulate it seems crucial in understanding the complex dynamics of propaganda and its impact on society.

In my opinion, you could name and shame all day, but we'll probably never get the names of the real conspirators at the root of it.

I do agree it's one central group - though, we are dealing with entities that fully utilise the psychological and behavioural sciences, and are masters of shifting focus to other groups.

In particular, it's useful to use a group that actually do have nefarious traits.

Look at the 9-11 story. They used Islam as the scapegoat - and chose a worthy group to impute the blame.

I think it's a mistake to blame a single race or religion - these creatures have no borders or patriotic ideals. They use those ideas against their targets.

"They" take orders directly from Iblis, the deluder. Ellul either completely missed the spiritual element to the propaganda that pervades all spheres of society today or simply chose to avoid the subject, since he was an academic after all.

I would certainly say that Technique can (should) be used by the elites to guide the herd in the paths of righteousness, as it were. And if it were appropriately used in that direction, we would see most deviant behaviour disappear among the masses. My argument against them is not that they exist and rule, but that they are miscreant and deviant, having abandoned the duties which devolve upon the ruling elites viz. the masses in favour of transhumanism and related forms of delinquency. My sense is that the natural and hereditary aristocracies have been supplanted by an inferior caste, one which, its affectations and aspirations notwithstanding, pertains to (and is rooted in) the merchant class. Peace, Sam Gerrans
