A short anecdote on using ai to understand meaning.

After reading your piece on Frithjof, I dug out my copy of Understanding Islam. The cover features a symmetrical design, which to my surprise, contains the logo you use. Out of curiosity, I asked AI if it had any significance.

It confidently told me it was the name of your self-publishing company, “L9 Press.” After a bit of back and forth, it eventually admitted it had invented that entirely.

Two takeaways for me:

AI can produce confident falsehoods when it doesn’t know.

More interestingly, it led me into the wonderful world of Arabic calligraphy and Kufic squares.

A small cautionary tale reminding readers not to lean too heavily on AI when searching for meaning.

I agree that leaning too heavily is not what is required. I am suggesting using it as an assist in cases where one is lost, and only then with certain caveats.
